FAQs

What will the recipient receive?

Every Rooted letter is handcrafted and mailed directly to the person you nominate. Here is what arrives in their mailbox:

A handcrafted letter written for a specific tender moment — assembled by hand, sealed with wax, and sent through the mail.

A pressed flower stem tucked inside a glassine sleeve, chosen to match that letter's moment.

A small symbolism snippet explaining the meaning behind their flower and why it was chosen.

Nothing instant. Just something slow and intentional waiting in their mailbox.

Do I get to choose which letter they receive?

No — and that's intentional. Each recipient enters the Rooted journey wherever the series is at the moment they are nominated. There are twelve letters in the arc, each written for a different moment in a woman's life. Trust that wherever she enters, it will meet her right where she is.

How will they know what to do with it?

The envelope arrives with a welcome note, a from card and a simple instruction: open when _____. Your person tucks it away somewhere safe and opens it when the moment finds them.

Will they know who sent it?

Yes — they will know someone was thinking of them. That's part of the gift.

How long does delivery take?

Rooted letters are assembled by hand and mailed within a few days of your nomination being received. Standard USPS delivery typically takes 3–5 business days from there. Because these travel through the mail the old-fashioned way, we ask that you give them a little grace — slow mail is worth the wait.

Can I nominate someone who lives far away?

Absolutely — anywhere in the United States. As long as we have a valid mailing address, your letter will find her.

What if I enter the wrong address?

Please double check the mailing address before submitting your nomination form — once a letter is assembled and mailed we are unable to retrieve it. If you realize you've made an error, reach out to us immediately at hello@rootedletters.com and we will do our best to help.

Can a man nominate someone?

Of course. Rooted letters are written for women but the love behind them can come from anyone — a husband, a father, a son, a friend. If there is a woman in your life who needs to feel held, you are welcome here.

Can I nominate myself?

We love this question. Not quite — Rooted is built on the idea of one person holding another. But if you are going through something tender and need to feel held, reach out to us at hello@rootedletters.com. We will see what we can do.

What if the recipient doesn't know what an open when letter is?

That's okay — the letter arrives with everything she needs to understand it. The envelope tells her when to open it. The rest takes care of itself.

Can I nominate the same person more than once?

Yes — if she needs to be held more than once, we are honored to be part of that. Each letter she receives will be the next one in the Rooted journey, so every letter will be different.

Is this a subscription?

Pay It Forward is a one-time gift — you purchase once and one letter is sent to your person. Gift subscriptions, which deliver a new letter every month for 3, 6, or 12 months, are coming soon.

How do I know the letter was sent?

You will receive a confirmation when your nomination is processed and your letter is on its way.

What if my person never opens it?

Then it waits. That is the beauty of an open when letter — it has no expiration date. It will be there when she is ready.
